Real-World Readiness: A Rural District Reimagines Career-Connected Learning

Challenge

In a small rural district, traditional instruction centered on standardized testing left students and educators asking a crucial question: How does this connect to life beyond the classroom? Without clear pathways to local careers or relevance in their learning, students struggled to see the value in their education.

Approach

To close the gap between school and workforce, the district partnered with e|solve to design an instructional model rooted in real-world application. We hosted industry partner forums to gather input from local employers, conducted student and teacher focus groups to understand their aspirations and challenges, and studied national exemplars. The result: a new K–12 instructional vision anchored in regional opportunity, hands-on learning, and future-ready skills.

Impact

  • 100% of teachers implementing Project-Based Learning

  • Increased hands-on STEM learning opportunities across grade levels

  • Expanded partnerships with local businesses and industries
